Idaho Rivers Near Flood Stage After Wild Weather

Posted: Updated:

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Many Idaho rivers have swollen to near flood stage following a week of severe weather. The National Weather Service is forecasting flooding in Boise, Gem and Payette counties in southwestern Idaho, as well as in northern Idaho where rivers including the Spokane are licking at their banks.

No major damage is forecast, but low-lying areas could be swamped. Affected rivers include waterways in parts of Canyon, Owyhee and Twin Falls counties where a flood advisory is in effect.

And people are advised to avoid water charging down the rivers that's filled with debris like dislodged trees.

Heavy rains, along with melting mountain snows, caused rivers to swell. For instance, Thursday's storms in southwestern Idaho brought an inch of rain, pushing what had been a relatively dry month over precipitation averages.
