SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth softball player Jamie Brunner was named First Team All-Northwest Conference, according to the official list released by the league office today, while Heather Hesselgesser was selected to the second team. Sami Parr received honorable mention consideration as well.

Brunner, a junior from Chelan, Washington, was chosen to the First Team by Northwest Conference coaches as a utility/designated player, one of three in the category. She batted .367 in 28 Northwest Conference contests with 17 RBIs and 23 runs scored. She had eight doubles and a pair of home runs. Brunner has previously been voted to the All-NWC Second Team in 2011 and received honorable mention in 2010.

Even though Hesselgesser missed nearly a third of the conference season (eight games) due to a season-ending concussion, coaches voted her to the Second Team as an infielder for the second time in her career. The junior from Nine Mile Falls, Washington batted .448 with 17 RBIs and 16 runs scored in 20 NWC contests. She had six doubles and two home runs. Hesselgesser had previously been selected as a Second Team honoree in 2010 and was honorable mention last season.

Whitworth first-year head coach Cristal Brown believes both awards are well-earned.

"Jamie is a hard worker who was consistent all year and shows tremendous leadership on and off the field," Brown said. "The fact that Heather received this recognition despite missing the last eight games is a compliment to the type of offensive year she was having."

Sami Parr received honorable mention consideration for the second year in a row. The senior from Milwaukie, Oregon batted .308 in 28 NWC contests. She had three home runs with 16 RBIs and 17 runs scored. Parr, who was the Pirates' starter at second base for her entire career, was a Second Team All-NWC honoree in 2010.

The trio led Whitworth to a 19-21 overall record, 12-16 in the NWC this season. Those final records came after a 3-14 overall start, 2-10 in the NWC.
