10-Year-Old Brings Gun, Ammunition To Idaho School

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) - Police in the eastern Idaho city of Idaho Falls are investigating after a 10-year-old elementary school student brought an unloaded semi-automatic handgun and ammunition to school.


Idaho Falls School District 91 spokeswoman Margaret Wimborne said school officials found the weapon in the child's backpack after other students reported they'd heard about, but not seen, the gun. The school officials called police, who confiscated the gun.

The child who brought the gun has been suspended pending a hearing. Wimborne says there is no indication the child intended any harm.

Police spokeswoman Joelyn Hansen said the child was playing at a local park and found the handgun and ammunition in a tree.
