New Mexico State and the University of Idaho said Friday they would continue to seek a "successful solution", as member after member institution decides to leave the Western Athletic Conference.

The powers-that-be at the University of Idaho will speak about the recent developments in what is left of the Western Athletic Conference – and what the Vandals' plans for the future are - on Friday afternoon.

Athletic Director Rob Spear will hold a conference call with reporters at 3 p.m. (PT) to answer questions and concerns about the Vandals' future, said a spokesman with the program.

Utah State and San Jose State formally announced Friday morning they intend to leave the WAC after the 2012 season, leaving the Vandals and New Mexico State as the only remaining football schools. All other members, including two schools that had not even played a game in the conference yet, decided it was in their best interest to go to conferences such as the Big East, Conference USA, Sun Belt and Mountain West.

Spear said earlier in the week that he was "disappointed in the recent changes that are driven not by tradition, academic quality, competitiveness or the student experience, but by money." He said he would continue to "most strongly position the University of Idaho".

WAC officials said Monday in a statement "[The Board of Directors] continues to evaluate the impact upon the WAC and is closely engaged in evaluating its membership options." Interim commissioner Jeff Hurd said he was confident the WAC "would maintain its more than 50-year history as a preeminent Division I conference."
