Yakima, WA (May 19, 2012)-West Valley High School student, Garrett Sisk and fellow youngster Casey Chambers earned their first career main victories at Yakima Speedway as the duo put together strong runs all night for their big payoff in the Burger Ranch Sportsman and CWI Security/EZ Credit Auto Sales Hornet divisions respectively.
Others picking up main event victories included Josh Aguirre, Cody Denton and Chris Marang.
Sisk, who got his start in quarter midget racing before his move to Legend cars in recent seasons, burst onto the Sportsman stage with a new track record in qualifying and a win in his group's heat race.
Moving from his sixth-place starting position into the top-3 running order by lap 25 of a 40-lap sprint, Sisk made the most of his second career start in the division as he follows in his father Jeff's footsteps as a main event winner on the famed half-mile in Yakima. The high school senior passed leader Terry Cook on a restart after the event's only caution and held Cook off in the final four laps for the victory with defending champion and current points leader, Buck Noel Jr., rounding out the top-3 running order.
Casey Chambers has been knocking on the door of his first career victory and finally found his way to victory circle after a hard fought race with the divisions points leader, Jeff Ball. Chambers cleared a knot of cars entering turn one on the race's first lap and drove away from the field in the early going. Ball worked his way through traffic and gave chase to Chambers late in the event but fell short by a handful of car lengths.
Marang made it two wins in as many weeks and is a serious threat for the 2012 H&H Furniture Pure Stock championship. Jeff Wilkinson has been seeking his first career win in the division and at times over the course of the main event looked poised to nab the elusive checkered flag. Wilkinson and fellow Rookie of the Year candidate Tim Hitchcock worked together in their move to the front of the pack but were unable to clear Marang in the end as the race winner had built a sizable lead in the early going of the 30-lap finale.
The Speedway Mini-Stock division has been gaining in popularity thanks in part to the hard-charging Cody Denton who has finished all three of his starts inside the top-3 running order including a main event victory this weekend. Denton dealt with Jason Hall in the late going as the pair raced side-by-side on several occasions for the 20-lap finale. Hall was unable to make an outside move for the win count in the late going as Casey Chambers was in the thick of the battle late waiting to pounce if the leaders made contact. All three drivers have become a staple of the division which continued its strong car count for the second race in as many weeks
Josh Aguirre is the man to beat in the Sea Galley Bump-to-Pass as he now has three straight main event victories in as many 2012 starts.
For win number three Aguirre waited out the mayhem until the race's final lap to make a move to the front from his third-place position, taking the lead exiting turn four as the white flag came out. Aguirre made it a clean sweep on the night as he set fast time, picked up a win in the trophy dash and also saw the checkers as the winner of the night's heat race.
Yakima Speedway returns to action on June 9 with its Speedway Spring Spectacular featuring a $2 grandstand admission special. Racing that night will be the stars of the Speedway's famed late model division running their first Saturday night race of the season. Also in action will be the Sportsman, Pure Stocks, Mini-Stocks, Hornet and Bump-to-Pass divisions. For more information log onto yakimaspeedway.us or the tracks page on Facebook.
