Momma Grizzly & Her Cub Shot To Death; $10,000 Reward For Information

BOUNDARY COUNTY, Idaho - Five Private agencies are offering up a $10,000 dollar reward for information about who shot and killed a momma grizzly and her cub. It happened on Hall Mountain which is between the Kootenai River and U.S. 95 near the Canadian boarder. Fish and Game officials say the bears were discovered by a black bear hunter who called it in.

The grizzly cub was not discovered to be shot until Fish and Game agents arrived on scene. Fish and Game officials say the grizzly cub was likely born in December or early January and just had emerged from its den a few weeks ago. Fish and Game says the bears had been dead for several days before the hunter discovered them.

Fish and Wildlife has begun an investigation, trying to figure out why and how this happened. Grizzlies are illegal to hunt in the lower 48 states. The $10,000 reward is "very significant" say fish and game officials and was offered only says after the discovery. This is being treated as a poaching incident and if someone is caught and convicted of the crime they could face up to one year in jail and or $100,000 dollar fine.
