UPDATE PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE POLICE DEPT: A Repeat Offender (ROP) was arrested after driving recklessly, eluding police and causing a collision that blocked a north side intersection for hours on Thursday night The ROP sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and was arrested for Vehicular Assault and Attempt to Elude.

Shortly after 6:00 pm Thursday night, 47-year-old William Brinton was spotted driving reckless at Division and Garland where he drove through a red light. When an officer attempted to stop him, he continued the reckless driving and refused to stop. The officer stopped pursuing at Wellesley and Addison, when Brinton drove into oncoming traffic.

Within a minute Brinton caused a collision at Nevada and Hoffman, where he ran a stop sign and crashed into an SUV. Brinton and the two occupants of the SUV were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Brinton has been identified as a Repeat Offender based on his criminal activity and felony convictions. In his 18 year criminal history, Brinton has been arrested and booked into jail on over 140 charges, with 8 of those being Attempt to Elude. The Spokane Police Department is committed to focusing on the Repeat Offender Program, as they are the small number of criminals who commit a disproportionately large number of crimes against our citizens.

SPOKANE, Wash. - A career criminal is in custody after leading Spokane Police Officers on a dangerous chase through north Spokane.

Police say 47-year-old William Brinton was arrested after he led police through the area of Division and Garland before he was T-Boned at the intersection of Nevada and Hoffman around 6:30 PM Thursday.

Brinton is part of Spokane's Repeat Offender Program and according to police, the 18-year career criminal has been booked on more than 140 different charges, including 8 charges of attempting to elude police.

When Spokane Police Officers began to pursue Brinton's car Thursday afternoon, Brinton took off at a high rate of speed.

For the sake of resident safety, officers terminated the pursuit about three blocks prior to the crash.

Brinton had to be extricated by the fire department from his Oldsmobile and was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The driver who hit Brinton was also taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Brinton was booked on multiple charges Thursday night.

    LEWISTON, Idaho - Authorities say a north-central Idaho man died while hunting Sunday morning after accidentally shooting himself. The Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office says 25-year-old Ryan S. Rigney of Lewiston was hunting near Soldiers Meadow Lake when he accidentally discharged his gun.

The Lewiston Tribune reports emergency medical crews were sent to the rural location about 7:42 a.m. but lifesaving measures were unsuccessful and Rigney died at the scene.
