SPOKANE, Wash. - Yesterday was my first official day of training all by myself. Let me tell you, I am SO SORE! And it wasn't even that long of a workout…embarrassing. First, I did a 200 M warm up, which was ok. I did half backstroke and half freestyle. I love backstroke…it's so much easier for me than freestyle! Then we did the 100 M stick drill, which is so hard. I was working muscles I did not even know existed! The next 100 M was a glide drill and I just focused on keeping my stroke shoulder-width apart. After that, I did a 100 M peeking drill, which helps me practice for an open water swim. The peeking drill makes me look for my surroundings…or peek. I try to keep just my eyes above the water, because if I bring up my entire head, I will really slow down.
By this point in the work out, I was SO TIRED! Ouch, only a 500 down. Then I did a 300 M freestyle set and was worried that I was just going to drown, so I ended with a 400 freestyle and backstroke. I was supposed to do the 300 M 4 times, but I needed to tone down Heath's workout a little bit. I have a long way to go!
