UPDATE: 21-Year-Old Woman Found Dead; Pinned Underneath Own Vehicle

SPOKANE, Wash. - Family members found their 21-year-old loved one pinned underneath her vehicle on Tuesday morning near 16th & Milton. Police tell our Kelsey Watts that normally she gets off at work at midnight but her family just thought she was running late. When her grandmother awoke Tuesday morning she found the woman pinned underneath her vehicle in the driveway outside of the home.

When firefighters arrived on the scene they declared the woman dead. Police officers found the car in neutral with no parking brake set and believe the woman died because her car rolled over her as she tried stop it.

"I think the slope of the driveway played a big part of it because I think the car gathered speed really quickly and caught her off guard," said Spokane Police Sgt. Sean Nemec. "It can happen though, especially on those hills."

The major crimes team, reconstructionists and the medical examiner arrived along with two tow trucks to lift the car off the woman without causing further damage. Police had no reason to take the car and left it at the home.

"People will try to stop their car when it's rolling like that - I know I've done it when it's rolling, and it's a bad idea," Sgt. Nemec added. "Especially when you're a small 100 pound girl like this."

Her tragic and all too early loss of life has left her family in shock. They met with a police chaplain on Tuesday morning as they begin to process her death.

"They're obviously distraught like you can't imagine," Sgt. Nemec said. "I'm glad they're all together, I know they've been making calls, and more family will be on the way. They're having a terrible time with it, as you might imagine."

We've also learned that the woman worked for a freight company and accounting for them overnight. She was about to get married. Her fiance' and sister were staying at the home.

Authorities are not releasing the victim's name until all of the family has been notified.
