SPOKANE, Wash. - There is a new weigh station now for any commercial vehicle that comes across the border from Idaho to Spokane on I-90. The state-of-the-art technology provides automated vehicle identification and automated license plate recognition to distinguish the difference between trucks that have a good track record and those that the system flags as high-risk companies or those the system does not recognize. We talked to John Triplett with the Washington State Patrol and he is proud of their new station.
"We can see a lot more of the trucks. Our technology is top of the line, its the number one in the nation right now for the technology involved in here", said Triplett.
The project cost about $14 million dollars. Similar technology is in eleven other weigh station across the state of Washington. Last year, the technology saved the trucking industry about $12.1 million dollars. Truck companies say that this new technology will help them out. Jeff Bosma owns Fast Way Freight here in Spokane and he is excited about the new station.
"Our whole goal is to move the most freight we can in the least amount of time so this facility will help that compared to the old one that was here was here that they referred lovingly as the outhouse," said Bosma.
