UPDATE: Man Who Allegedly Flooded Hotel Is A Convicted Murderer

SPOKANE, Wash. - The man charged with first degree malicious mischief following a flooding at a Spokane Valley hotel is also a convicted murderer. In 1995, Daniel Peters was convicted of killing 40 year old Melissa Wageman. He served nearly 16 years for the crime, but was released in January of 2011. He was on two years of active supervision, but now he will stay at the Spokane County Jail.

It all happened in December of 1995 at the Happy Time Tavern on Division. Wageman was celebrating her 40th birthday the same night she was killed by Peters. She left the party with him and that was the last time she was seen. Autopsy results show that she was beaten with a blunt instrument. In an interview after the murder a decade and a half ago, Peters said he does not remember killing Wageman as he was in a drug infused haze. Allegedly, he was also in a drug infused haze Wednesday morning at the Pheasant Hill Inn and Suites when he flooded ¾ of the hotel.

Here is the 1995 story from the Spokesman-Review on the murder: http://m.spokesman.com/stories/1995/dec/27/murder-victim-helped-her-friends-regulars-at/

ORIGINAL STORY:

SPOKANE VALLEY, WASH. -- A couple celebrating their one year anniversary were arrested early Wednesday morning for causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to the Pheasant Hill Inn and Suites in Spokane Valley. Spokane County Sheriffs Deputies arrested Daniel Peters, age 37, and Danielle Wozniak, age 28, for malicious mischief in the first degree.

At 5:30 Wednesday morning someone inside their room smashed a sprinkler head, and the water explosion that followed took out 76 of the hotels 104 rooms. It was just two weeks ago when Pheasant Hill finished a 2 million dollar renovation that included new beds, carpets and furniture. One man at the scene said the water inside the hotel following the sprinkler issue looked like Boulder Beach at Silverwood Theme Park.

All of the hotel guests evacuated near the 6 o' clock hour this morning. The clean-up begins today at the hotel and at this point they have no idea when their business will be fully operating again.
