SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -

The Arena Football League and the union that represents its players have a meeting planned over the weekend to talk about the latest proposed collective bargaining agreement that could make or potentially break the rest of the season.

The majority owner of the Spokane Shock, Brady Nelson, told SWX Friday he was headed to Chicago Friday night in preparation for the labor negotiations. If a deal is not reached, it is possible players could be locked out as early as Monday, and teams could hire replacement players.

The players union has sent a counterproposal to the plan set out by Nelson earlier this week. The plan called for sizeable raises for players among other details. Nelson told SWX Thursday night the two sides are as close as they have ever been on CBA negotiations, and that he felt confident a deal would be reached soon.

Shock Make Roster Moves

Regardless of what happens with labor negotiations, the Shock made a pair surprising roster moves. First, they placed Terrance Sanders on Injured Reserve. The star defensive back dislocated a bone in his wrist last weekend. He showed up to practice on Tuesday with a cast on his wrist. He will be out of the lineup for at least four weeks.

The other move Friday involved backup quarterback Jason Boltus. The Shock released Boltus without giving a reason. The move is interesting because by releasing him from the team, he could possibly be called back as a replacement player if labor negotiations fail and owners lock out the players.

The Shock play division rival Utah on Saturday at Spokane Arena. The game can be seen live on SWX, SWXRightNow.com, and on mobile devices via the Syncbak app.
