SEATTLE (AP) - Buster Posey led off the second inning with a solo home run into the second deck of the left field seats, National League hitting leader Melky Cabrera added a two-run shot in the eighth inning, and the San Francisco Giants opened a three-game interleague series with a 4-2 win over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night.
Posey turned on a hanging breaking ball from Seattle starter Jason Vargas (7-6) for his eighth homer of the season, a 386-foot shot that landed in the first row of seats in the second deck above the Giants bullpen. Cabrera's sixth homer of the season didn't have the majestic arc of Posey's, but cleared the fence in left-center field by about a foot as Franklin Gutierrez was unable to chase it down.
Giants' starter Ryan Vogelsong couldn't match the perfection of teammate Matt Cain, but was dominant for seven innings. Vogelsong (6-2) won his sixth straight decision taking a shutout into the eighth inning. He has not lost since May 3 against Miami.
