Dog Leash Emphasis Patrols

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. - SCRAPS and the Spokane County Sheriff's office teamed together to patrol county parks, making sure that all dogs were on leashes.

The Dog Leash Emphasis Patrol was the first of seven throughout the summer. Many people are unaware that it is actually illegal to allow dogs to run around the counties public parks, leash free.

The park's patrolling ranger informed us of a couple common courtesy tips for dog owners. First, not everyone likes dogs, and the county wants everyone to have a good time at the park. Second, most dogs are naturally curious and they might run into something that could be dangerous for them. Third, even if your dog is a loving, gentle animal, it might run up to another leashed dog that is pretty aggressive.

Ranger Bryant Robinson also informed us that he was all about educating people today, but tomorrow he might be handing out tickets. A ticket for an unleashed dog can range around $87.00 dollars.
