Just after 4:00am this morning, a Spokane Police officer responding to a shots fired call was involved in an officer involved shooting.
 
The initial call stated a male was shooting a shotgun in the area of Napa and Mission.  The Spokane Police officer was in the area and arrived almost immediately and contacted the suspect who reportedly was pointing the weapon at another person.  The officer fired one time striking the suspect in the leg.  The suspect was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.  The initial medical information received stated the injury appeared to be non-life-threatening.  Additionally, a controlled substance was found on the suspect at the hospital.
 
The officer was not injured and is on administrative leave which is standard protocol while the investigation is conducted by the Spokane Investigative Regional Response Team (SIRR Team).  The SIRR Team is comprised of members of the Spokane County Sheriff's Office, the Washington State Patrol and the Spokane Police Department.
 
Recovered at the scene by investigators was a "pellet" gun that resembles a full-sized rifle. 
 
No one else was injured and the incident remains under investigation.  There are no further details at this time.

SPOKANE, Wash. - A man was shot in the leg by a Spokane Police Officer early Sunday morning. 

Police say that at around 4:00am they received a call from a citizen about a man in the neighborhood of Mission and Napa firing a weapon.

Police were on scene within a minute and made contact with the suspect. The investigation is ongoing, but we are told at some point during the incident between the man and the officer, the officer fired a shot and hit the suspect in the leg.

The suspect, who is a 24 year old white male is undergoing surgery right now and we are told he has non-life threatening injuries. Police did recover a rifle at the scene and are interviewing witnesses. The area is expected to be blocked off for much of the morning.

The officer is on paid administrative leave, which is protocol. We will stay on top of this story and bring you any updates as soon as we get them.
