St. Luke's Gets Ready For Hoopfest

SPOKANE, Wash. - With one week left to go until Hoopfest, players are getting their last practices in and that includes a group from here in Spokane who say they are ready to roll.

It's a tradition in Spokane, teams from all over the country converge on downtown in the biggest 3 on 3 basketball tournament in the world.

For a select few, it's the biggest one on four wheels.

St Luke's Rehabilitation Institute has been a part of Hoopfest for over a decade.

Their sports program provides a chance for anyone with disabilities to be part of a team.

Sponsoring six junior and four adult teams this year with players ranging anywhere from 8 to 58 years old, it's their biggest turn out ever.

For Spencer Kimbro, next weekend will be his first Hoopfest experience.

The 12 year old picked up his first basketball last fall and hasn't stopped dribbling or shooting since.

He doesn't see himself any different than any other players, in his eyes they're all athletes.

After practicing for over two hours Friday night, the teams will get together again next Friday for a short walk through.

If you would like to cheer on Spencer and the rest of Team St. Lukes, they will be playing all weekend at the corner of Bridge and Lincoln.
