College Presidents Approve Plan for College Football Playoff

Updated:
(Auburn University Athletics) (Auburn University Athletics)

As of 2014 there will no longer be a Bowl Championship Subdivision. The BCS is dead. A college football playoff lives.

University presidents from the 11 major conferences and Notre Dame met Tuesday and approved the new plan. Instead of pitting the supposed No. 1 team against the supposed No. 2 team in the country at the end of the season, the new format will create a pair of national semifinals. No. 1 will play No. 4, and No. 2 will play No. 3.  And the winners will advance to a national championship game.

The teams in the playoff will be selected by a committee, similar to the way the NCAA basketball tournament field is set.

There are still some lingering details, such as what the revenue share will be.
