SPOKANE, Wash. - With families going on vacation and kids out of school, the summer months are typically slow for the Inland Northwest Blood Center and that's the reason for their biggest blood drive of the year.
Tuesday at the blood center James Curran sat down in a familiar chair to do a familiar job he's done for years.
Squeezing a red heart shaped ball, he doesn't donate time or money but something even more important. James has been giving blood since he was in college in the 1960's.
He says it's an easy way for him to give back to the community, it doesn't take much time and it even gives him a chance for a quick nap.
Right now the Inland Northwest Blood Center is running their 15th Annual Community Blood Drive during the part of the year they need it the most.
Providing blood to 35 area hospitals, the center is hoping to hit their goal of 1300 donors by the end of the week, to match their demand for this time of the year. Right now the blood center is about half way to their goal.
They'll be closed Wednesday for the 4th but will be back open from 9 to 6 on Thursday and Friday at four different area locations.
