SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - The Spokane County Sheriff's Department's Marine Patrol Unit was out in full force on Wednesday making sure that boaters on area lakes were safe. The deputies were checking for the correct amount of life vests, a proper horn, and for a boating license. All boat drivers in Washington under the age of 40-years-old need to have a Washington State Boater Education card before they can operate a boat. The Marine Patrol Unit is not only using boats to check on people at Newman Lake and Liberty Lake, they also use jet skis.
