H-1 Unlimited Season Begins Friday; Countdown to Columbia Cup Is On

The H-1 Unlimited Hydroplane season starts Friday, beginning the countdown to the Columbia Cup on July 29 in the Tri-Cities.

Steve David's U-1 "Oh Boy, Oberto" crashed into Dave Vilwock's U-96 "Spirit of Qatar" to start the season in last year's Madison Regatta – a crash that broke both teams' banks at more than $100,000 in damage, while also breaking David's ribs.

The Madison Regatta begins today in Indiana, with qualifying runs beginning around 12 noon (PT).
