Largest U.S. Hispanic Groups

This week a new report from the Pew Hispanic Center reveals the characteristics of the ten largest Hispanic groups. Among the fifty-one million Hispanics in the United States, nearly two-thirds or thirty-three million are of Mexican descent.

Puerto Ricans, the nation's second largest Hispanic group, make up just nine percent of the total Hispanic population.

Overall, the ten largest Hispanic origin groups are Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Salvadorans, Dominicans, Guatemalans, Colombians, Hondurans, Ecuadorians and Peruvians.

During the last decade, the foreign-born of each major Hispanic group declined while at the same time the percentage of U.S. citizenship increased among all Hispanic groups.
