UPDATE: Body Of Missing Tuber Found In Spokane River

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - The Spokane Fire Dept. confirms with KHQ that the body of a man who went missing in the Spokane River on Monday evening while floating on an inner tube in the Spokane Valley has been found.
    
The 21-year-old man went into the water when his tube flipped and he was not wearing a life jacket. Authorities say his body was located Tuesday morning approximately 100 yards from Flora Trailhead.
    
A kayaker saw the man go under, but could not reach him in the fast-moving water.

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - Emergency crews called off the search for a person who went missing while tubing on the Spokane River Monday evening.

The first reports came in just after 7:00PM of a person struggling in the river near the Flora Trailhead in Spokane Valley.

Within 15 minutes emergency crews from Spokane and Spokane Valley had boats on the water and teams on multiple bridges searching for the missing person.

He's described as a 21-year-old white man wearing black shorts and possibly a black shirt.

Witnesses say he was floating with a group of friends, none of which were wearing life jackets. At some point the missing man became separated from his group and began struggling in the fast moving water.

An experienced kayaker who happened to be in the area gave chase after saw his inner tube flip. He got to within about 25 feet but could not reach the man.

With thunder and lightning, along with darkness falling, crews had to call off the search because of the unsafe conditions for rescuers on the water.

While floating the river in this area is extremely popular during the summer, rescuers say conditions are dangerous.

According to officials on scene,  only about half of everyone they saw on the water Monday was wearing a life jacket even though they are required by law.

Crews hope to continue the search Tuesday morning but right now they say its looking more like a recovery than a rescue.

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - Spokane Valley Firefighters are searching for a missing person on the Spokane River. The call was dispatched to Mission and Flora, but firefighters are searching extensively downstream as well.

Rescue crews called off the search just after 8:00PM due to bad weather. We are told the man is 21-years old, white and was last seen wearing black shorts and possibly a black search.
