What Is Your Criteria For Police Chief

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane Mayor David Condon wants to hear from you about the search for Spokane's next police chief.

It is fair to say that each of the three candidates, George Markert, Frank Straub and Daniel Mahoney has a history of dealing with controversy within their departments.

We talked with several people in the community today to see what they are looking for in the next chief.

"I'm looking primarily for accountability someone who is going to hold the offices responsible," said John Wiess, former police officer.

"We need someone who is persistent and creative and knowledgeable to change the culture and change the practices so everyone in our community is safe and can trust police officers," said Liz Moore, Director at Peace and Justice Action League.

"It may be that the to be the kind of police chef that we need now you have to take risk and shake things up so I wouldn't say that because and controversy may be a good thing given what we need," said Tim Connor with the Center For Justice.

You can provide their feedback on the candidates by sending an email to policechiefsearch@spokanecity.org.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Wind, humidity and rainfall combined precisely to create the massive killer tornado in Moore, Okla. And when they did, the awesome amount of energy released over that city dwarfed the power of the atomic bomb that leveled Hiroshima. Meteorologists contacted by The Associated Press used real time measurements to calculate the energy released during the storm's life span of almost an hour.
