CIA REPORTS: Police Chief Candidate Daniel Mahoney Profile

Posted: Updated:

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - One day removed from the police chief finalist interviews in Spokane, KHQ continues our in-depth coverage as we traveled to San Francisco to profile Ingleside Police Station Commanding Officer Daniel Mahoney. The Ingleside Police Station is within the San Francisco P.D.

The San Francisco Police Department is made up of 2200 officers and a little more than two years ago Mahoney was one of three finalists for the Police Chief job in the bay area. Instead of taking over the whole department he took over at the Ingleside Police Station. Mahoney has worked within S.F.P.D for the past thirty years.

"In those thirty years he's (Mahoney) covered a myriad of assignments," Kevin Martin said. Martin serves as the acting President of the San Francisco Police Officers Association. "He's been a patrol officer, midnight watch, central police district, northern police district, he was a field training officer for twelve years."

"I think Dan Mahoney is one of the class acts among cops," Vic Lee said. Lee's worked as a broadcast journalist in the bay area for the past 40 years and served primarily the "cop shop" reporter for most of that time. "Dan Mahoney is a cops' cop. He is respected highly by rank and file. He a guy reporters trust in knowing that he's giving us the right information."

Current San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr also had nothing but good things to say about Mahoney.

"He did a lot of our joint terrorism task force with feds, he did a lot of risk management here," Suhr said. "He's well regarded in the department as someone who came up through the ranks and I think he would be a good chief."
