UPDATE: Lightning Strike At NASCAR Race Kills 1, Injures 9

LONG POND, Pa. (AP) - Track officials at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania say a lightning strike in the parking lot behind the grandstand after a NASCAR race killed one person and injured nine others.

It's not clear if all 10 people were actually struck by lightning, nor is it known whether one or multiple strikes occurred.

Racetrack officials say two people were taken to the hospital in critical condition after the strike, but one of them later died.

A track spokesman says one person remains hospitalized in critical condition. Some of the other victims were taken to the hospital with moderate or minor injuries; others were treated at the scene.

The race was called because of rain, with 98 of the 160 scheduled laps completed. The track posted warnings on its Twitter page near the end of the race encouraging fans to "seek shelter as severe lightning and heavy winds are in our area."
