Full pads translates to full-contact football and for the Idaho Vandals it was a welcome feeling as fall camp 2012 continued.

"We had a good practice today," coach Robb Akey said after the Vandals had their first practice in full gear Monday evening. "They did get after each other."

Monday's practice set the stage for the first of three fall scrimmages. Tuesday's game-like session begins at 2:30 p.m. at the Kibbie Dome.

"They're anxious to get after it in the scrimmage tomorrow," Akey said. "I'm anxious to see how they're going to perform; what they've picked up. I'm looking forward to it as much as they are."

The scrimmage will be one step in settling the battles at a number of starting positions up for grabs. While attention has centered around the competition between Taylor Davis and Dominique Blackman for the starting quarterback role, the line in front of them has yet to be determined as well. There is experience back at virtually every position - sorting out who will earn the starting nod when the Vandals open the 2012 against Eastern Washington remains.

Idaho scrimmages twice more - Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and Aug. 16 at 2:30 p.m., during fall camp.
