MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. - Firefighters in Medical Lake say the fire has been knocked down, but not contained. We are told about 5 acres total have burned, not the 10-15 that was originally reported.

In all about 15-20 homes were evacuated and many homeowners were trying to protect their homes with garden hoses. The flames came so close to some homes that some yards were actually burned, however no structures were damaged.

Homeowners now being let back in, but roads in the area will stay closed for now.

MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. - Fire officials on scene of a 10-15 acres brush fire in Medical Lake say they have it knocked down, but are still treating it as an active fire because there is no containment line around it yet, and if the wind picks up, the fire could take off again.

Residents who were evacuated are being allowed back into their homes, but only on foot. Right now the area is still closed off to vehicles.
