Rua's Grand Slam Not Enough; Indians Lose to Salem-Keizer

Updated:

The Spokane Indians almost made a miraculous comeback Thursday night but allowed a 10th inning single that rained on their parade.

Salem-Keizer scored five runs through the first three innings and made it 6-0 in the seventh. But that's when the tide started to turn.

The Volcanoes brought in pitcher Keith Bilodeau, who allowed the first four batters to reach base on singles. Ryan Rua then hit a grand slam to bring the Indians within one run. Salem-Keizer brought in Stephen Johnson to stop the bleeding, but he allowed the tying run.

The game went into extra innings, with Ryan Jones knocking a single over the head of Spokane's third baseman to score the winning run. The Volcanoes won 7-6.

The same two teams play again on Friday. The Indians return to Avista Stadium on Saturday to begin a series with Everett. Saturday's game will be shown live on SWX-TV.
