SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - Fire crews were called to the Chateau Estates Apartments on East Mission around 1:30 pm Tuesday after neighbors reported flames coming from the balcony of one of the units.

Nobody was inside the unit at the time, and nobody was hurt. However the fire did damage four units and got into the attic. Water damage may be an issue for other neighboring units as well.

Spokane Valley Fire officials say it looks like the fire started on the balcony of either the second or third floor unit and burned upward. They will be looking into whether ashes improperly disposed of could be to blame. The official cause is under investigation.
