Spokane Valley Fire Department Press Release:

SPOKANE VALLEY,Wash. - This afternoon at approximately 1:20 PM a neighbor reported a fire at the Cedar Chateau Estates at E 13310 Mission.  Responding crews observed a large smoke column and called for additional units en route.  Valley Engine 5 arrived first and began extinguishment from the exterior.  Other crews evacuated the building and set up for offensive operations.  Valley Engine 1 initiated an interior attack, knocking down the fire and checking the attic space for extension.  Fire was found in the attic and quickly extinguished.  During the course of the suppression efforts a five (5) inch supply hose burst.  Another was quickly laid with minimal impact to the fire suppression efforts.

There was no one in the apartments involved and there were no injuries.  There were four (4) apartments damaged in the apartment.  Eleven (11) apparatus responded with a total of 31 firefighters.  Damage was estimated to be $100,000.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

 Previous Coverage:

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - Fire crews were called to the Chateau Estates Apartments on East Mission around 1:30 pm Tuesday after neighbors reported flames coming from the balcony of one of the units.

Nobody was inside the unit at the time, and nobody was hurt. However the fire did damage four units and got into the attic. Water damage may be an issue for other neighboring units as well.

Spokane Valley Fire officials say it looks like the fire started on the balcony of either the second or third floor unit and burned upward. They will be looking into whether ashes improperly disposed of could be to blame. The official cause is under investigation.
