The Bears defeated the Boise Hawks 8-7 Monday night at Yakima County Stadium. The Bears used six runs in the final three innings to overcome a 7-2 deficit in a walk-off win. The Bears trailed 5-0, but scored two runs on three errors in the fifth inning to pull within three runs. The Hawks pushed the lead back to five runs with a two-run home run in sixth inning. The Bears then loaded the bases in the seventh inning and Joe Loftus hit a double to score all three runners. Michael Lang hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to tie the game at 7-7. After Kevin Medrano led off the ninth inning with a double, Loftus reached on a walk and then the next two batters hit fly outs to right field, but neither allowed Medrano to advance. So, with two on and two out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Bears catcher Steven Rodriguez hit a sharp single that bounced off of the Hawks first baseman and allowed Medrano to score all the way from second base. The Bears were outhit 11-9 in the game, but were helped by four Hawks errors and a refusal to quit. All eight of the Bears runs were scored with two outs. Kevin Medrano went 2-for-5 and Josh Parr went 2-for-2, but three players had a huge impact with only one hit each. Loftus finished 1-for-4 with three runs batted in thanks to his bases-clearing double in the seventh. Lang went 1-for-4, with the two-run home run in the eighth home run. Rodriguez ended the night 1-for-5 with the game winning single in the ninth inning. Enrique Burgos tossed a scoreless top of the ninth inning and was credited with his first win of the season. Before Burgos, Jose Jose tossed two scoreless innings, Austin Platt gave up six runs in three innings, and starter Cody Wheeler was charged with one run in three innings. The Bears have already secured a series win by taking the first two games of the three-game series against the Hawks. The series and the Bears current homestand wraps up Tuesday with a 7:05 scheduled game. Left-handed pitcher Alex Carreras of the Bears is expected to face right-handed pitcher Pierce Johnson of the Hawks.
