Spokane, Wash. -- The Indians looked to be in prime position for a three game sweep of the Dust Devils...but then the clouds rolled in. Tri-City scored three times in a torrential downpour against Josh McElwee (1-2) in the top of the ninth, and held on after a lightning delay for a 8-6 win over Spokane in front of 4,542 fans at Avista Stadium.
Spokane led 6-5 heading into the game's deciding frame, but McElwee couldn't find a grip on a waterlogged ball as an RBI single from Rosell Herrera and a two-run double off the bat of Tom Murphy helped the Dust Devils end their eight game losing streak.
The Indians offense was highlighted again by new arrival Joey Gallo who tattooed a solo home run over the Avista Stadium scoreboard in right field. Joe Maloney had a second straight outstanding night at the plate, finishing the game 3-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Royce Bolinger collected a pair of base knocks to extend his hitting streak to 22 games and raise his season average to .302.
