Spokane, WA - Salem-Keizer entered Wednesday night's game with the worst pitching staff in the Northwest League - Spokane's offense seemed painfully unaware of that fact. Volcanoes starter Joe Biagini (2-4) pitched six sterling innings, and two relievers kept the shutout intact, as Salem-Keizer dropped the Indians 3-0 in front of 3,406 fans at Avista Stadium.
New arrival Jake Skole provided the bulk of the Indians offense, reaching base four times on three singles and a walk. Royce Bolinger singled in his first at-bat, extending his hitting streak to 23 games, while Ryan Rua and Preston Beck each picked up one hit in the loss.
Spokane starter C.J. Edwards (1-3) was the hard luck loser after allowing one unearned run in six frames. The slender right-hander from Newberry, SC tied his season-high with nine strikeouts, bamboozling the Volcanoes with a masterful mix of fastballs and off-speed pitches.
In political news, OTTO the Mascot won the Avista Stadium primary with 87 percent of the vote.
Tomorrow's game is the second game of a five game series against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes.
