Backpacks And School Supplies Nearly Gone At The Salvation Army's Back To School Distribution
**Press Release From The Salvation Army**
SPOKANE, Wash. - 3,100 backpacks have been handed out to children in our community, filled with school supplies Thursday.
Doors opened at 8am Thursday morning, and will close at 8pm, however, The Salvation Army expects the backpacks to be distributed prior to that. This morning, anxious children and parents lined up and waited, wrapping around an entire city block.
The Salvation Army has a total of 3,500 backpacks filled with basic school supplies to hand out.
The Avista Energy & Resource Fair was also a hit at today's distribution. Parents and children were treated to performances by Wattson the Avista Mascot, energy saving tips, healthcare and parenting information, even free ID cards for children courtesy of Operation ID.
