CHENEY, Wash. -
The Cheney Blackhawks are just a week away from making their season debut in the Emerald City Classic in Cheney.
Cheney had a mark of 6-3 last year and looks to build off that winning record to make a run at the playoffs this time around.
A bonus this year is that the Blackhawks return many of their skill position players from a year ago.
The team says fall camp is progressing just like they had hoped.

East Valley (Yak.) vs. Cheney
Sat., Sept. 1 at 4 p.m.
"We feel pretty good, we've had good numbers coming out," said coach Jason Williams. "Actually, at one point we had enough kids out that we ran out of helmets and had to buy some new ones! That's a good thing to have."
"Camp has been pretty good," said senior receiver Eric Igbinoba. "It's been eye-opening how quick it went by. This is my senior year and I'm trying to take everything on the field not for granted."
Cheney plays East Valley of Yakima in the first game of the season Sept. 1 at the Emerald City Classic at Eastern Washington University. The Classic is at Roos Field this year as opposed to being played in Seattle because of a scheduling conflict at CenturyLink Field. Other games at Roos Field that day are Tekoa-Oakesdale vs. Reardan; Colville vs. Freeman; and Central Valley vs. Ferris. All games will be shown live on SWX-TV.
