SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Firefighters responded to a house fire in north Spokane Saturday afternoon in the 5700 block of N. Maple.

Arriving crews could see a thick plume of smoke and immediately upgraded the call to a "working fire" when they got on scene. It took crews about fifteen minutes to knock down the blaze, but the house suffered severe damage.

The renters of the house, a family of five, all got out safely and no injuries were reported. One dog made it to safety but two cats are still unaccounted for.

Fire investigators are working to determine a cause.
