SPOKANE, Wash. -

After three days of fall camp, followed by the annual red-white scrimmage, the Spokane Chiefs have just 36 players on their roster: 17 rookies and 19 veterans. Bring on Everett.

Spokane and Everett are scheduled to play an exhibition game Saturday on the west side of the state. They play Seattle on Sunday.

"Probably this week – it's going to be a good week of practice," said Mitch Holmberg. "You know, getting the hang of it again, it's a little different than summer. It's gonna be a week, probably!"

Coach Don Nachbaur, now in his second year in Spokane, hopes to see the veterans of the team play even better than they did last season. The exhibition games will give him a good idea as to who is ready to play in the WHL – veteran or not.

The Chiefs open the regular season September 8 at Tri-City.
