Spokane Police Department To Get New Gear

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Police Department is about to receive a new police Interceptor.

They'll upgrade to the new 2013 model with all the bells and whistles.

The cars will have extra safety features, special tires, and all-wheel drive so they can handle better in the snow.

Another big change coming to the department will be the uniforms.

Spokane City Council approved a contract to spend  $40,000 dollars for 70 new jump suits.

That's two new jump suits each for about 36 officers.

Instead of four uniforms, each officer will have two medium weight outfits, which will get through both winter and summer seasons.

The first ten officers have already been outfitted, and the rest are being phased in over the next two years.

Another cool gizmo police could get is a small, thin, video camera that attaches to the side of sunglasses.

It gives the perspective of what the officer is seeing. All video is downloaded on the spot, and can cut down on any disputes and complaints that may arise.

The cameras are not a done deal; police are just testing them right now.
