SPOKANE, Wash. -- Sophomore quarterback Bretty Rypien passed for 279 yards and four touchdowns as Shadle Park beat Rogers Thursday night, in both teams' GSL season openers.
Rypien completed 24 of 37 attempts, helping overcome a 16-15 third quarter deficit to beat the Pirates. Rogers won back-to-back games to close out the 2011 season and was looking to win a third in a row against the Highlanders. GSL play begins in earnest on Friday with three league matchups, and one more Saturday at Roos Field in Cheney.
