UPDATE: Wenas Fire Evacuations Lifted

YAKIMA, Wash. - The Wenas fire has grown to 1600 acres. Fire activity moderated overnight into Saturday morning. Evacuations have been lifted and N. Wenas Road and Longmire Ln are open for traffic.
 
The fire is 50% contained with active fire on the NE corner.
 
Two helicopters and two bulldozers are assigned to the fire. Approximately 65 firefighters from Yakima County, Washington State Department of Natural Resources and US Forest Service are assigned to the fire.
 
No structure loss has been reported.

YAKIMA, Wash. - The Wenas Fire, located near Wenas Lake, approximately 16 miles, NW of Selah was reported at 12:40pm Friday afternoon.

Approximately, thirty homes,  North of the intersection of N. Wenas road and Longmire Ln., have been evacuated. North Wenas road is closed to traffic beyond this point. 

As of 7:00pm, an estimated 960 acres have burned. The fire, burning in grass and sage brush is reported to be 30% contained.  

Nine aircraft, including four helicopters, three water tenders, one air attack unit and one lead plane are assigned to the fire. Four bulldozers are being used on the east and west perimeters of to flank the fire with the hope of containing it between the road and Lake Wenas.

Firefighters from Yakima County, Kittitas County, Department of Natural Resources and the US Forest Service are fighting the blaze.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.
