Everett, WA- The Portland Winterhawks (2-0) scored three goals in the third period to down the Tri-City Americans (1-1) 4-1 in the Americans final game of the Holiday Inn Pre-Season Classic hosted by the Everett Silvertips.

The Winterhawks scored first, with Dominic Turgeon earning the first goal of the game 16:39 into the first period. The Americans had 11 shots on Winterhawks' goalie Jarrod Schamerhorn, but couldn't score in the period.

The second period was dominated by the Americans, but with no positive results. Tri-City had 10 shots in the period compared to Portland's five, but neither team could score a goal and the period ended with the Winterhawks hanging on to a one goal lead heading into the third.

Portland came out and stomped the Americans in the third period. It started early in the period when Jason Trott scored on a power play to give the Winterhawks a 2-0 lead.

The Americans scored their first and only goal of the night 7:10 into the third by Tyson Dallman and assisted by Justin Feser and Beau McCue.

This brought the Americans within one but would only last 18 seconds. Portland would increase the lead back to two with a Keoni Texeira goal. Texeira would add another goal less than three minutes later on a power play to give the Winterhawks a three goal lead that Portland would ride to victory.

Both teams racked up the penalty minutes, with the teams spending a combined 86 minutes in the penalty box, including 47 for the Americans. The Americans were 0-for-6 on the power play while Portland was 2-for-9 on the power play.

The Americans next exhibition game is on September 6 against the Kootenay Ice when Tri-City hosts the Red Lion Hotels Pre-Season Tournament at the Toyota Center. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
