YAKIMA, Wash. -- Friday on SWX, the West Valley Rams hosting the Selah Vikings. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. West Valley plays its first CWAC league opponent since moving from the Columbia Basin Big Nine conference. In week one West Valley shut out Pasco 23-0. The Rams say the defense was key, playing in mid-season form and blowing only one assignment.
"It doesn't matter if it was Pasco, Bickleton or Kamiakin. It wouldn't matter. When kids do the things right, such as rally to the ball, do their assignment. They shut down every screen pass that they threw. When you see everyone rallying around the ball and doing that, you know, that was great," West Valley head coach John Beck said.
The Selah offense will look to crack that West Valley defense. Last week the Vikings lost at home to Cle Elum 35-0. It was coach Scott Ditter's first game as Selah's head football coach. He talked about how his team can improve for it's first conference game of the season.
"I think taking control of the line of scrimmage and taking care of the football. Any time you're in your first league game of the season, it's exciting, and so we really need to be able to do the little things well and really just focus on what we do and focus on the process along the way," Ditter said.
