Posted: Updated:

WHITE SALMON, Wash. (AP) - Firefighters are making progress against a 1,200-acre wildfire that threatens about four-dozen homes in the Columbia River Gorge near White Swan, about 60 miles east of Vancouver.

A spokesman for firefighters of the Forest Service says the evacuation order for 49 homes will be re-evaluated Friday and those residents may be allowed to return home. The threat may also ease for residents of another 400 homes and cabins who were told to be ready to flee.

Hinatsu says the focus for the more the 430 firefighters is protecting structures. None have burned and no injuries have been reported since the fire broke out Wednesday afternoon along Highway 141, burning trees and grassy areas.
