UPDATE: Davenport Hotel Owners To Build LARGEST Hotel In Spokane!

SPOKANE, Wash. - At a news conference at the INB Performing Arts Center, Walt & Karen Worthy announced their plans to build the largest hotel in Spokane.

The owners of the Davenport Hotel expect to break ground on the multi-million dollar project by February or March, on the site of the parking lot to the south of the INB complex. The hotel will be 15 stories, and no public parking will be lost. A parking garage will be built on the east side of the property. The hotel will include restaurants, retail, an indoor pool and terrace.

Construction and operations are expected to provide roughly 1,000 jobs, and will help attract visitors to the Spokane area. The construction comes as voters approved the expansion of the Convention Center complex on the April ballot.

The Worthy's will finance and operate the hotel themselves, without outside partners. However the hotel is expected to have a major hotel brand affiliation, such as Marriott or Hilton.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE: Walt and Karen Worthy, owners of the Davenport Hotel Collection are pleased to announce the construction of a new convention center hotel. The newly constructed multi-million dollar hotel will be located directly south of the Spokane Convention Center and is to be connected by a skywalk across Spokane Falls Boulevard.

Preliminary plans call for approximately 700 guest rooms and suites and up to 70,000 square feet of meeting space including a 15,000 square foot outdoor terrace, several large ballrooms; and multiple meeting rooms.  Also part of the development will be more than 900 public parking spaces; restaurants; a spa and salon plus an indoor pool and fitness center.

The new hotel will have a major convention hotel brand affiliation that is yet to be decided, for example, Marriott, Hilton or Hyatt. The hotel will be designed to achieve LEED certification.

"Over 1,000 jobs will be created to construct and operate the new convention center hotel," said developer Walt Worthy.

"The District's Vision 20/20 Master Plan for Expansion of the Spokane Convention Center calls for a major convention headquarters hotel as the next step in developing the full potential of the Convention Center as an economic engine that benefits the entire region." says District Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Twohig. "We hoped that such a facility would come to fruition and very much admire Walt and Karen's vision. We are looking forward to working with them."

The Davenport Hotel Collection owns and operates three other hotels, all located in the heart of the arts, entertainment, shopping and financial districts; in downtown Spokane, WA.
