UPDATE: Deadly Hotel Shooting In Downtown Spokane

UPDATED PRESS RELEASE: Thursday morning at 4:02am, Spokane Police officers responded to "shots fired" at the Days Inn, 120 W. 3rd Ave. When officers arrived, they found 33-year-old Paul A. Haney, from Yakima, was dead from gunshot wounds in the parking lot.

Major Crimes Detectives are continuing their investigation into Haney's murder. Throughout the day yesterday, detectives processed the crime scene and interviewed witnesses. Jimmy J. Blackburn (8/24/83) was arrested on an unrelated Dept. of Corrections warrant. Blackburn had been staying in one of the rooms involved in the homicide.

Detectives executed search warrants of three Days Inn Hotel rooms, and found additional weapons and methamphetamine.  A handgun was located near Haney's body and another handgun was located in another part of the lot. 

A red moped was seized as possible evidence; detectives have not determined if it is connected to the shooting at 33/Thor the day before.  The moped seized had been reported stolen on Sept. 12, 2012, prior to both the drive by shooting and the homicide.

Two people were arrested in Yakima, Washington yesterday on unrelated Dept. of Corrections warrants. Detectives traveled to Yakima and interviewed the two about their possible involvement in the homicide. Detectives also executed a search warrant of a vehicle the two traveled in.

Police are searching for a person of interest in the homicide, Kevin Heaton (2/10/77). He has an extensive local criminal history and should be considered armed and dangerous. If anyone has any information about his whereabouts, they are asked to call Crimestoppers.

SPOKANE, Wash. - One man is dead after a shooting in downtown Spokane. It happened at around 4:00 a.m. Thursday in the parking lot of the Days Inn, that's near the intersection of 3rd and McClellan.

Officials on scene tell us the victim is a male and did die of a gunshot wound. Guests at the Days Inn heard at least 6 to 7 shots fired and called police.

A handgun was found in the parking lot just feet from the body.

The Major Crimes Unit is investigating but has not identified the victim at this time. They are looking at surveillance video.
