Central Washington Moves Humboldt State Game to Bothell

Updated:

For the second straight week Central Washington has decided to move its weekend football game away from Ellensburg because of poor – even dangerous – air quality.

The team's game against Humboldt State this Saturday will be played at Pop Keeney Stadium in Bothell, the same place stadium in which they played Azusa Pacific – and won.

"We had a fantastic turnout last Saturday when we played Azusa Pacific there," said Jack Bishop, CWU athletics director, "and we hope to see even more fans this Saturday. We hate to have to move the game, but the forecast is for poor air quality and we just won't subject our players, their players, or the fans to that."

Bishop said any tickets previously purchased would be honored at the gate in Bothell.

Forecasters, including SWX's Leslie Lowe, said a weak cold front would make its way through the area on Tuesday, scrubbing out at least some of the smoke that has drifted and settled into the area because of wildfires in Washington and Oregon. But conditions will remain dry for the rest of the week, meaning the potential for smoky skies still exists through the weekend.
