SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - Two people are dead after two separate crashes happened within minutes of each other early Wednesday morning.

The first crash happened just after midnight at the intersection of State Route 904 and Ritchie Rd about seven miles southwest of Cheney. Washington State Patrol says the driver, 35-year-old Cheney resident Maurice Frazier, was driving westbound when he lost control of his car, overcorrected and rolled it.

Frazier was ejected from the car because he was not wearing a seatbelt, and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Minutes after this crash, at about 1:15 AM, a Dodge truck lost control near the intersection of Wellesley and Irrigon Rd. at the Washington/Idaho state line.

When Spokane Valley fire crews and Sheriff's deputies arrived, one man was found dead at the scene, another was walking around, while a third man was seriously injured and had to be transported to Kootenai Medical Center via MedStar.

Officials have not yet indicated what caused this crash. Power was out to several homes for a few hours. Avista is working to repair a damaged transformer.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE:

On Wednesday, October 10th, 2012, at 1:15 a.m., Spokane County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one-vehicle rollover collision at 26800 E. Wellesley Road in Otis Orchards.  Deputies arrived on scene and found 20-year-old Michael Steinbach walking around the collision scene. Steinbach told deputies he was a passenger in the 2004 Dodge Ram pickup that struck a power pole, tree and rolled from Wellesley Road.

Deputies located two other male subjects, 24-year-old Derrick Wilcox and 18-year-old Taylor Stacy, about fifty-feet away from the truck. Both had apparently been ejected from the vehicle.

Medics arrived on scene and transported Wilcox via MedStar to Kootenai County Medical Center and he is listed in critical condition. Steinbach was transported to a local hospital and is listed in serious condition. Stacy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff's Office Collision Investigators responded to investigate the scene.  Wellesley Road was closed east and westbound for several hours while investigators documented and collected evidence. Several residents in the nearby area lost power from the truck hitting the power pole in the collision.

Preliminary investigation shows speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the collision.  Investigators are currently examining the evidence to determine who was driving the vehicle.

>>>Anyone who may have seen any of these subjects Tuesday evening, or Wednesday morning, are asked to contact Detective Dave Thornburg at 509-477-2710.
