OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Don't feed the bears.
The Washington Fish and Wildlife says a new law that took effect in June prohibits intentionally feeding bears and other wild carnivores or leaving out food or garbage that attracts them.
Violators could be fined up to $1,000.
The agency says people should secure garbage cans in areas where bears have been reported. People also should remove bird feeders and keep pet food inside.
