COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - A company called Coeur d'Alene Paving wants to move its asphalt plant from a location in Rathdrum to an area near the Stateline Speedway.
But people who live near the state line say they're worried about chemicals in the air, water safety and noise pollution.
At the direction of the previous county commission, Coeur d'Alene Paving was asked to find a new location in part of homeowners complaints. And the homeowners near the Idaho border voiced similar concerns.
The company, however, says it is strictly regulated by the Department of Environmental Quality and State Line is the only suitable location.
Many homeowners feel the company has shut them out and has not been transparent with them. There have been at least 3 prior meetings where homeowners who live near state line could voice their concerns.
Monday night's meeting is strictly an open deliberation between council members to decide if it will grant the permit.
