
A Sacramento State football player who injured a lung during the team's season opener this year died Sunday after spending the past several weeks in a coma.
The Sacramento Bee reported John Bloomfield passed away Sunday.
Bloomfield was injured Aug. 30 and was admitted to the hospital on Sept. 19. After three surgeries he slipped into a coma and could not recover.
A statement from Sacramento State said:
"John Bloomfield's passing has brought a profound sadness to Sacramento State," said President Alexander Gonzalez. "He was a tremendous representative of our University and a beloved member of the Hornet football team. My thoughts are with his family, friends, teammates and fellow students."
