SPOKANE, WASH. - The
city of Spokane's official winter season runs from November 15th
through March, but de-icer is already being used three weeks before the
"official" start.
The de-icer they are using now comes from last year's supply.
Next week at the city council meeting the council will vote to approve how much
de-icer they will order for the upcoming winter season.
It's important to keep in mind the
city doesn't budget for the November to March season; they budget for the full
12 month calendar year. What city leaders are doing right now is figuring out
how much money they have left in this year's snow removal budget and how much
they plan to budget for 2013.
Ann Deasy with the city of Spokane
said they are working as well to contract private contractors who will join the
city's snow plow team to ensure that all streets get plowed in a timely fashion.
Something to keep in mind, this is the first year that the city will tow and
ticket vehicles that are in the path of plows so it is important to be aware of
where they will be plowing and when.
